The Retreats

Where the Year Gathers into Days

A curriculum carried alone, in the margins of an ordinary life, will teach the mind but rarely reach the body. For the body to learn, the ordinary must occasionally be set down altogether — and this is what the retreats are for. Several times across the year, the cohort gathers, leaves behind the apparatus and the hurry of common life, and gives itself, for a span of days, wholly to the practice. The retreats are where the year’s slow study is concentrated into lived, embodied experience; where what has been read becomes, at last, felt.
