And now, having walked the seven once as a plain path, we may reveal what runs beneath themfor this revealing is itself how the work proceeds: first the structure, and then, as we deepen, the secret within it. Beneath each initiate runs one of the ancient forms of love. The seven initiations are, in their depth, seven loves; and the seventh love is not an eighth thing added but the prior six made actual. We name them here not to be memorised but to be grown into, one at a time, exactly as each initiate is deepened.

InitiateThe love revealed beneath it, as we deepen
ListeningPhilautiagenerative self-love, the ground of every other love
IntimacyPhiliathe love of friendship, with self, other, and life
BalanceStorgethe steady, maintaining love that knows forgiveness
Art & AlchemyLudusthe playful love of making and of transformation
EmbodimentErosthe primary life-force, desire in its purest, moving form
WorshipAgapeselfless love, the love of love, nearest the unconditional
ProvidencePragmalove put into practice, the dependable love that endures

Just as the initiates deepen cumulatively, so do the loves. Philautia does not end when Philia begins; each love, once awakened, goes on maturing beneath all that follow, so that Pragma, when it is reached, carries the whole sevenfold love within it. To deepen an initiate is, in truth, to deepen a lovewhich is why the path can never be merely studied, only lived.

Within the Coherence Thesis. the seven initiates are coherence made developmentalthe proof that a coherent being is not declared but grown, threshold by threshold, with nothing discarded and everything deepened. A civilization built of such beings would have the one property the thesis has sought from the first volume: it would cohere from the inside, because each of its members had been made coherent from the inside, one initiate at a time.
