If You Are Already Doing the Work

If you are already doing some version of what the book has been describing—running a community, building infrastructure, doing the inner work, holding a piece of the larger inquiry the book has been pointing toward—the request is to recognize that you are not as alone as the conditions make you feel. The fragmentation the book has been describing is real, and it operates at the level of psychological experience as well as at the level of institutional architecture. Many of the people doing the most important work are doing it in conditions of structural isolation, with limited recognition, against headwinds that are often invisible to people who are not doing similar work.

What helps, when help is possible, is contact with others who recognize what you are doing for what it is. The book is one attempt to provide that recognition. The infrastructure Providence is being designed to build is another. There are many others, and finding them is itself part of the work. The next civilization is being built right now, in fragments, by people who do not yet know they are building it together. Recognizing your own work as part of that larger building is part of what makes the building possible.
