What Remains Open

The most consequential open question about stewardship practice concerns how constitutional stewardship is transmitted across generations of institutional leadership. Every institution that has maintained constitutional integrity across multiple leadership generations has done so through specific transmission mechanisms — written constitutional texts, oral tradition, ritual practice, formal role definition — and the failure of any of those mechanisms has consistently been followed by constitutional drift. What specific transmission mechanisms are most compatible with Providence's constitutional culture is a question that the founding community will have to answer through experience rather than through prior design.
