Your People

No one becomes themselves alone. Somewhere there may be people who would recognize you, who carry the complementary gift, who are bent toward the same distant thing, in whose company you might become more than you could ever be by yourself. The quiet tragedy is how rarely they find each other.

We sort human beings by where they were born, by what they earn, by what they have already been, almost never by who they are becoming or what they are for. And so people who could build together pass within feet of one another and never meet. To find your people is not a luxury or a comfort. It is one of the conditions of becoming anything at all.
